October 11th – SHPE DC & Booz Allen Hamilton Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month with your SHPE Familia and members of the Booz Allen Hamilton Latin American Forum. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month theme is “Diversity United: Bringing America’s Future Today.” The event will be held at Lima Restaurant (1401 K Street Northwest) near the McPherson Square Metro on Thursday, October 11th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This Networking event will also feature a celebration of Latin American culture through a Peruvian folkloric dance performance and dance lessons.

October 26th – Reminder: NASA Space Science Day
Volunteers Needed for the NASA Space Science Event! The NASA Space Science Day (NSSD) is an event co-hosted with NASA with the objective of encouraging the pursuit of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers among high school students throughout hands-on activities. The event is targeting 150 students with six consecutive learning sessions occurring simultaneously. The event is planned to be on Friday Oct 26th (student event) and Saturday Oct 27th (teacher training event).

This educational outreach event will be held as follows:
Student Workshop, Friday, Oct 26th, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Underrepresented high school students are invited to participate in hands on learning about NASA exploration, discoveries, and science.
Teacher Workshop, Saturday, Oct 27th, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
High school teachers of underrepresented students will be introduced to Expedition Earth and Beyond (EEAB) learning resources. Teachers will also become certified to borrow lunar rocks and meteorites from NASA to share in the classroom.
