CHCI’s Nationally Acclaimed Graduate Fellowship Program Application – Deadline is Approaching!

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is seeking to offer exceptional Latino college and masters graduates from across the country unparalleled exposure to professional experiences in a vast array of public policy arenas such as education, health, housing, law, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) while participating in CHCI’s nationally acclaimed leadership development training program.

NASA Space Science Day Reminder & Volunteer Information

SHPE DC is currently seeking for Volunteers to facilitate the IUVA NASA Space Science Day. For more information about volunteering please visit our NSSD site. We invite volunteer professionals to register here:Volunteer Registration Form. We hope to see many of you there!

Remember, The deadline to submit all registration and signed release forms for NASA Space Science Day for each each student is 5 p.m. ET, January 25th 2013

October 11th – SHPE DC & Booz Allen Hamilton Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month with your SHPE Familia and members of the Booz Allen Hamilton Latin American Forum. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month theme is “Diversity United: Bringing America’s Future Today.” The event will be held at Lima Restaurant (1401 K Street Northwest) near the McPherson Square Metro on Thursday, October 11th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This Networking event will also feature a celebration of Latin American culture through a Peruvian folkloric dance performance and dance lessons.

October 26th – Reminder: NASA Space Science Day
Volunteers Needed for the NASA Space Science Event! The NASA Space Science Day (NSSD) is an event co-hosted with NASA with the objective of encouraging the pursuit of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers among high school students throughout hands-on activities. The event is targeting 150 students with six consecutive learning sessions occurring simultaneously. The event is planned to be on Friday Oct 26th (student event) and Saturday Oct 27th (teacher training event).

We will have a follow up webcast on Tuesday, Oct 9th, 8 p.m. ET to discuss the assignment of roles and responsibilities for all volunteers that will be attending this event. Please mark your calendars. We will provide you additional information soon.

This educational outreach event will be held as follows:

Student Workshop, Friday, Oct 26th, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Underrepresented high school students are invited to participate in hands on learning about NASA exploration, discoveries, and science.

Teacher Workshop, Saturday, Oct 27th, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
High school teachers of underrepresented students will be introduced to Expedition Earth and Beyond (EEAB) learning resources. Teachers will also become certified to borrow lunar rocks and meteorites from NASA to share in the classroom.

USA Science and Engineering Festival – Volunteers Needed

It’s that time of year again! In just 3 weeks, SHPE will be participating in USA Science and Engineering Festival at the Washington Convention Center. This is a nationwide festival to spark interest in STEM fields and has thousands of participants yearly. SHPE National has a booth and is looking for volunteers. This is also a great opportunity to meet many national SHPE members, including those of the national board of directors.
